Jeff Custer and others have
started a direct action group in the quad cities affectionately called the
"peoples party program"...
First Meeting April 28th at 4pm
1010 23rd St Rock Island, Il.
Open to EVERYONE, we'd like as much attendance as possible
drinks and snacks provided
we will run
over some basic outlines/guidelines for the program.
Second Metting May 1st "call in to work day"
all day, at the new deere glass
palace park below blackhawk college.
some things we hope to cover/accomplish:
organize a petition for city/county council hearing effectively banning any
mega-chain/corporation that practices unfair labor/commerce actions. i.e. no
un-sanctioned foreign labor, no prison labor, no globalization practices,
etc.
organize anti-walmart campaign. subvertise in front of wal-mart with
pamphlets illustrating their global domination tactics, iron handed
suppression of unionization/wage negotiations, use of foreign and prison
labor, use of genetically engineered produce/meat, coercion of local funded
tax breaks and government kickbacks, dismantling of local small business
economy, etc. likewise with mall chains like the gap, victorias
secret/express, and strip mall chains like borders, etc.
create a circulation group within the program to print (preferably free,
stealing copies from workplaces) informational pamphlets, community oriented
newspapers, small business directories, a monthly one page broadsheet to be
hung around the city on public mediums (bus stops, city buildings,
libraries, art galleries, museums, etc.) chronicling community
events/actions/organizations and proceedings at city council meetings
create a division of people to acquire media opportunities to spotlight the
programs operations as well as reclaim the media to report positive
community based issues/news
organize networks with other communities (des moines, iowa city, nudge
nudge) setting up city-meets-city meetings where we can learn from and teach
other discursive social actions
join the illinois/iowa environmental legal defense fund in fighting the
ownership of any farmland by corporations.
tap in to the iowa city based organic food co-op as an alternative to
purchasing genetically engineered foods from corporate owned farms. this
co-op is bulk/wholesale and locally harvested, all organic, and the larger
number of people plugged in to the co-op the more efficient and useful it
will become.
organize a council to pass a resolution on corporate personhood in the
county, amending the city tribunal which allows corporate interest to
involve itself in city affairs. basically, it means only natural people can
participate in democratic processes.
organize a council to pass a mandate to ensure the communities democratic
control over all corporations conducting business within the city. including
the right to vote on the validity of a corporations city charter if that
corporation has violated any civil, legal, or national laws/codes, including
the united nations universal declaration of human rights
organize a council to pass a city wide cap on the number of chain
businesses.
parallel national anti-commerce activities. planning critical masses,
staging job walk outs and call ins, promoting no-commerce days, etc.
and many more things.
thanks a lot, jeff. p.p.p!
